Sony Pictures has unveiled a new trailer for the zombie horror film “28 Years Later: Temple of Bones.” The latest installment in the franchise is set to hit theaters on January 16.
The story once again takes place in the United Kingdom, ravaged by the Rage virus. A teenager named Spike (Alfie Williams) joins a mysterious cult led by the charismatic Jimmy Crystal (Jack O’Connell). It soon becomes clear that the cult leader has his own agenda, and the virus and religious fanaticism intertwine into a single, deadly force.
The cast also includes Ralph Fiennes and Cillian Murphy, who returns to the “28…” universe years after the original film. “Temple of Bones” is directed by Nia DaCosta (“The Marvels”).
The previous entry, Danny Boyle’s “28 Years Later,” was released this summer and earned around $150 million worldwide. The new film continues to expand a universe where survival is a rarity and hope constantly collides with human cruelty.
