Thomas Vinterberg, known for “Another Round” and “The Hunt,” is developing a miniseries based on Astrid Lindgren’s “The Brothers Lionheart” for Apple TV+. First mentioned in spring 2024, the project is now confirmed with Vinterberg set to direct every episode.
Lindgren’s original 1973 novella follows brothers Jonatan and Karl Lejon, who, after the younger boy’s illness, find themselves in the fantasy realm of Nangiyala. There they earn the name Lionheart and face trials, uprisings, and friendships.
The script is being adapted by British playwright Simon Stephens. Cast details and a release window are still under wraps. The most famous adaptation remains the 1977 film directed by Olle Hellbom.
