HBO to Produce 'V for Vendetta' Series and Jimmy Olsen Spin-off

HBO is developing a series adaptation of the cult comic “V for Vendetta.” According to Variety sources, the studio will handle production, with the screenplay written by Pete Jackson, known for his work on the series “Somewhere Boy” and the upcoming adaptation of Nick Cave’s book “The Death of Bunny Munro.”

Executive producers on the project will be Peter Safran and James Gunn — heads of DC Studios. Simultaneously, they will also produce a “Superman” spin-off series focused on journalist Jimmy Olsen.

The new series will be titled DC Crime. It’s being developed by the creators of “American Vandal.” The role of Jimmy Olsen will again be played by Skyler Gisondo, who previously appeared in this role in “Superman.” In the first season, the character will investigate crimes committed by Gorilla Grodd — a villain with superhuman intelligence and telepathy.

Both projects expand the DC universe and demonstrate the studio’s strategy for creating streaming content. The “V for Vendetta” series will be the first television adaptation of the famous Alan Moore and David Lloyd comic since the 2005 film starring Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving.
