Universal will release the new ‘The Exorcist’ on 12 March 2027, according to media reports. Scarlett Johansson and Jacob Jupp (‘Hamnet’) will play the leading roles in the project. Mike Flanagan (The Haunting of Hill House) is directing and writing the screenplay. Plot details are unknown. William Friedkin’s original The Exorcist was released in 1973 and was based on the novel by William Blaty. The sequel, The Believer, debuted in the autumn of 2023. The film was panned by critics, but it paid for itself at the global box office ($137 million in revenue on a budget of $30 million).
