20th Century Studios has moved the premiere of the animated film “The Simpsons Movie 2” from July 23 to September 3, 2027. Initially, the release was planned for the twentieth anniversary of the first film, but now the sequel will be released on Labor Day weekend, which is celebrated in the US on the first Monday of September.
A month and a half ago, the studio announced the continuation of the feature-length adventure of the famous serial family. A special image with the cartoon characters was even created to announce the date change.
“The Simpsons” is the longest-running and one of the highest-rated American animated series and sitcoms. The story revolves around an average American family from the typical town of Springfield, whose location is deliberately not specified so that every state can consider it their own — except for Alaska, where the characters went in the first feature film, and Hawaii due to their geographical features.
The first film “The Simpsons Movie” with a budget of $75 million grossed $536 million at the box office, so it’s surprising that they waited so long for the second film. The 37th season of the series is currently airing on television — this spring it was renewed for four more seasons.
